<body> Toxic Charm - A Beauty Blog
...she's Beautiful

This is a blog with one simple purpose: to share my love of make-up with the world. Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a bit of a ridiculous obsession with cosmetics. Why not share my looks with everyone? I'll admit, I am not a professional or anything, but the most important part of make-up, to me anyway, is to have fun with it. So I shall do just that!

This week's post features some of the lovely Candlelight Translucent Setting Powder by Too Faced Cosmetics and some of Sephora's awesome Make-up Forever False Lashes.

Both of these great products were found at SEPHORA aka the most awesome store in the world for make-up junkies! :)

    So let's begin, shall we?
First up is the powder. This caught my eye as I was walking by the Too Faced display. I believe it's one of their new products for the winter, but I could be wrong. Here's a picture of the box:

SUPER cute packaging. Gotta love Too Face. Part of their product appeal is the packaging. I hate to say it, but it really sells the product. The packaging is what caught my eye. ;)

Then, the super cute compact (not pictured closed) opens up to reveal a cute mirror:

    Too Faced! :D

It claims to be made with real gold, haha. I wonder if that's true? That's what the package says, at least...but you never know! I have heard that they put real gold on cakes sometimes, so this could actually be true, but I'm not sure. It *is* listed as one of the ingredients on the back. It must be really cheap gold though. This powder cost me $25 + tax. So there you have it. Kind of expensive for a setting powder, but it has *gasp* real gold in it! I actually really like the glow it gives! :3

Some of the powder on the blotter pad:

Powder swatch on my skin...see the sparkles? Now you too can sparkle like Eddie C. Hahaha. Twilight reference...blah! It really does make your skin sparkle, though! But ever so slightly! Perfect for a night out with some friends or even for a date! It has a faint yellow tint to it:

I'd say if you want a cheap setting powder, don't buy this. $25 is a lot, however, the Bare Essentials Mineral Veils cost about $19 each and you don't get a brush with those either, so I dunno...it depends on what you're willing to splurge on. This has a nice sparkle to it and you don't have to worry about spilling powder everywhere, which is one of the reasons why I am starting to abandon my Bare Essentials stuff. It's just not convenient, plain and simple! =(

Here's a link to Too Faced's product page for the powder. You can also read reviews for it on sephora.com: CLICK ME!

    ANYWAY!

And now for some fake lashes. I would like to attempt a pin up girl/retro look eventually with big, huge, black eyelashes and red lipstick. But I really really suck at putting on false lashes. So this was my only semi-decent, post-worthy attempt:

Here's a photo of the box...nothing too fancy! Just standard make-up forever black and white packaging:

Here is a photo combining both products:

Whew. Hope you enjoyed my post. Keep your eyes peeled for future updates. :]

Hello everyone, I am back again, and this time with a new make-up palette to review. The company is called "Coastal Scents." You can find them at: www.coastalscents.com. Since I've been kinda busy lately, this review shall be brief, but I can always take some color swatches for you all later on if you so desire, just shoot me a message!

I know I said I'd be reviewing the Kat Von D palettes. Never fear! I will do so....in the following week.

So anyway. Since I love looking up makeup looks on Youtube, I've been seeing a lot of girls use the "Coastal Scents 88 Eyeshadow Palette" in a lot of their videos. I went HUH? because I've never heard of this company before. I think they are based out of Naples, Florida. So I decided I had to see what the fuss was all about, and I went and ordered the palette on November 29th. Unfortunately they didn't ship it 'till about December 4th. I guess they got backlogged with Black Friday/pre-Xmas orders. No biggie. The palette came in at the mail-room today, the 8th of December.

They packaged everything very well! It was shipped in a flat-rate mailer box.

This is the box the palette came in. Very plain. Nothing too flashy here.

Here's the 88 shadow palette opened up in all its glory! It comes with two double-ended applicators but I didn't use those. I used some other makeup brushes.

Here's the palette with a standard size ballpoint pen next to it for size reference. The shadows are surprisingly tiny!

    Close-up.

    Another close-up.

I couldn't wait to bust into the palette, so naturally I have to include a pic of me messing around with it. The shadows themselves are surprisingly bright and pigmented! Yay! But they're also kinda chalky and that sort of sucks. But anyway...as long as you blow some of the excess off before you apply the powder, you should be fine. There was a little bit of fallout though. The way you can avoid that is by putting a small piece of masking tape or scotch tape below your lower lids to keep it off your skin, or use a simple fan brush to remove excess powder. :)

Both eyes. All in all, I'd say it was a good purchase! For $18.95 only, you get 88 shadows and two double-tipped applicators. Not a bad deal at all! The shipping and handling was about $7.00 from FL to MO, just FYI. I am not sure if they ship internationally or not, though.

    SCORECARD:

    Communication: N/A (didn't contact them)
    Shipping times: 3/5 (holiday delays?)
Postal packaging: 5/5 (VERY well protected)

    Pricing: 5/5 (amazing deal!)
Product packaging: 2/5 (VERY plain box.)
    Pigment: 4/5 (super bright colors!)
    Application: 3/5 (lots of fallout)
Quality of make-up: 3/5 (it's kind of chalky + fallout)

OVERALL SCORE: 4/5 I give them a four out of five stars. The quality of the shadows are not good enough to wear alone without some type of primer on your lid. It will smudge off really, really easily. But the colors are fairly bright, and you get a HUGE variety of shadows for a VERY low price. Because of the bang for your buck, I'd rate Coastal Scents as 4/5. Hope you enjoyed my review!

Ever since I wandered into Sephora one day and discovered her "Beethoven" palette, I fell in love with her entire line! Kat Von D is totally AWESOME all around. She really knows her stuff when it comes to tattoo art, and she has a great fashion sense too. It might just be me, but whenever I think of "punk" I think Kat Von D. But anyway! Onto the goods!

So far Kat Von D has released FIVE (5) palettes which you can get from Sephora & Sephora.com here. I'll be reviewing one of each palette in 5 consecutive posts. I will take swatches for you guys so you can see what the colors look like on someone's skin.

Out of the five, there are three SPECIAL EDITION palettes including Gypsy, Metal Orchestra, and True Love. What is so special about the limited edition special palettes, you ask? Well...aside from the fact that they only make so many of them, you get one cream eyeshadow in addition to the other powder eyeshadows in each palette! The cream eyeshadow is great to use as a primer for the other colors or all by itself!

Each of Kat Von D's palettes include one black eyeshadow for blending!

The other two non-limited edition palettes are still pretty awesome! They include Beethoven and Ludwig.

    Here's a quick breakdown:

    Regular Palettes
Ludwig - Autumn-y colors. Browns and greens.
Beethoven - Browns, purple, blue, and yellow.

    Special Limited Edition Palettes
Gypsy - Mostly green hues with some gold/browns. Cream eyeshadow is a gold color.
Metal Orchestra - Blues and silvers. Cream eyeshadow is silver color.
True Love - Purples, golds, and browns. Cream eyeshadow is a bronze color.

    More to come! :)

Welcome to my blog. I know it's nothing too exciting, and I didn't come up with the layout by myself or anything like that, but HEY I've been wanting a makeup blog for a while now. So here it is. TA DA!

I shall try to update weekly, but school is pretty busy right now. Christmas break is fast approaching though, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates!! :)
